Our name and logo are inspired by the trade guilds and livery companies so central to life in early modern England. The flowers bursting from the bottom of the shield bring the queer rainbow into an early modern inspired form. Some of the flowers, such as the lavender, have historical queer resonances. The unicorn – a symbol of reclaimed queer difference – echoes the unicorns on early modern heraldry. Central to GQEM’s mission is the support, protection, and promotion of trans scholars in our field, so our unicorn is adorned with a ring in the colours of the trans flag.

Our logo was designed by Jasmine Kular.
